What the riser clamp does on a fire line, and how to specify it.
The riser clamp is for the vertical pipe, the riser. It grips the pipe at a fixed point and stops it moving or shifting out of alignment as the run climbs. A riser carries the line between floors and between the pump room and the branches above, so holding it true at each support is what keeps the whole vertical run straight and the connections under it from taking sideways load.
The same clamp work that holds a riser in a fire system holds it in plumbing and HVAC, which is why it is a general item in the range. On a fire line the marked versions carry the fire rating, so specify the marked clamp where the design requires it.

Pair it with the matching threaded rod, nuts, washers and anchors from the same range, and flag whether the design needs the fire-rated, FM/UL marked version, so the support arrives with the pipe instead of chasing it later.
