What the ring hanger does on a fire line, and how to specify it.
The ring hanger is the default way to hang a straight run of bare fire pipe off a concrete deck or a steel beam. The U-shaped member wraps the outside of the pipe and the threaded rod carries the load up to the anchor. It is made for stationary pipe, meaning a run that does not expand and contract under temperature, which is exactly how most sprinkler branch lines and mains behave once the system is charged and idle.
The insert nut is knurled so it can be gripped by hand or with a wrench. That is the adjustment you actually use on site: anchor the rod, let the pipe hang, level the run, then take up the nut to lock the height. You are setting the line once and leaving it alone, and the nut is the part that makes a clean, repeatable set possible without cutting or re-threading.
